10 Current Trends in Photography

I chose to gather some information for our 2020 year because the most relevant information it keeps your mind open to

1.Authentic and Candid photos:

Hyper-real candid moments and authentic -style imagery are the main focus in photography, authenticity that is demonstrated through imperfections and blurred movements has made photos so profound and memorable.

2.Lively Colors:

In Expression of yourself or of others, lively colors , bold hues and photos full of vibrance are the trend to pick up on right now in the journey of photography.

3.Atypical Beauty & Raw Shot:

One of the more dominating trends that should take effect this year is contemporary photography, mainly portraiture, where rediscovering the social culture of beauty, not only in the human aspect buth in visual aesthetic. Looking foward: photography depicting raw beauty that is unconventional, less produced and retouched. My personal opinion, learning film will be something to gain experience in trusting what your camera deveops organically would be an option to get that authenticity.

4.Modern Senior Living:

Baby boomers are reshaping the way life should be lived as serniors, and documenting them is showing their different forms of living is trending.

5.Diversity and Inclusion:

Our world has demanded to be diverse and inclusive , and photography will need precise representation of the world we live in and the people that are in it. Photographers are another form of messengers to the massess. Photography should include all in the catergories from race to gender roles and lifestyle.

6.Social Activism

Social activism through history has always been documented. The different movements our societies have placed awareness on are important to address and as history shows photos of these movements are important to keep note of. Communities coming together and with a strong sense of meaningful lifestyle choices mean most to viewers this creates connection between companies and consicous consumers.

7.Immerse Shots

Visual expression and the more creative the world gets the it embraces foward thinkings, and out of the box photography. This can be applies, to nature, lifestyle, landscape and more. Panoramic shots and 360 views are some of the shooting styles to look out for.

8.Mobile Shots:

No need for an expensive camera, your phone will do. Many photographers have taken up the challenge to work with only phone cameras and there have been many beautiful shots taken with them. Phone cameras are getting sharper and of better quality. This change comes in the form of more images using a portrait photography style over landscape, and is attributed by some to the rise of smartphone use. As a result, portrait (or vertical) imagery is one to look out for over the coming year to see if this trend continues to rise.

9.Mental Health Awareness:

Mental health as an awareness has been in the mainstream of communication, and now people are willing to share their stories to depict their roads to healing.  Photography will need to reflect this topic more, and in a real, honest way that invites viewers to the conversation. Brands are providing voice to the voiceless. As a goal to strive for in 2020, the way we reframe mental health from a visual perspective is just as important as the conversation itself.

10. Retro Nostalgia:

Agencies want to see a blend of trends from the past with ones of present time.  Vintage photography effects and moods from the past are a trend that has transcended time.
